Introducing the Improved Locate Request Sharing Service

As part of our Digital Transformation, we are introducing an improved Locate Request Sharing Service to help excavators save time and resources.

Sharing locates can be done by including another excavator’s contact information in the locate request. If that’s not possible, you can now share your locate requests in an improved format with other contractors if their digging parameters are the same as the ones in the shared request. This has the potential of reducing the need for Locate Service Providers (LSPs) to complete the same locates multiple times!

How It Works:

To use this service, you need to know the number of your locate request, the email on the locate request, and the contractor ID of the contractor you want to share it with. If the contractor with whom you’d like to share doesn’t have a Contractor ID, they can easily register as a contractor with Ontario One Call

Once you share the request, we’ll notify the contractor that the locate request has been shared. After the locate has been completed by the LSPs, you can pass the locate package directly to the contractor.

Excavator Responsibilities:

  • Only the excavator who made the original locate request can share it.
  • A copy of the locate request sharing confirmation email must be kept onsite during the dig for TSSA inspections.
  • You can only share locate requests with contractors whose digging parameters are the same as the ones found in the request you are sharing; this includes depth, type of work, location, and method of excavation.

User-Focused Development:

We developed this service by listening to the feedback of excavators just like you. Through testing and research, we are continuing to develop a service that meets your needs. We also incorporated the Ontario government design system, making the new form easier and quicker to use.

We’re committed to simplifying your processes and providing the tools you need for smooth, efficient digging.
